Jaques were making Dominoes sets and game tiles as early as 1795. The game features in our early pattern books and it would appear that they were almost certainly made from ivory. Standard domino sets today include 28 pieces, each of which has of a line dividing it into two squares and a number of spots (or ‘pips’) in each square end.
